As a visual artist, writer and oral tradition storyteller, my creative process is informed by all three disciplines, and begins with a simple question: What if? Seeking to answer this question word by word, draft after draft becomes the work. I’m drawn to character and place. As the erudite American writer and photographer, Eudora Welty, wrote: place has a good deal to do with making characters real…by confining character, it defines it. Through fictional folk, pieced together like a mosaic, and placed inside a customized world, I seek to reach clarity through emotion. Beginning with character and place, I push out.
